ABOUT ABOUT

Christmas, 1950. The first Christmas of the Korean War and once again young men and women are serving their country far away in foreign lands.  In the coastal town of Apalachicola on Florida’s Forgotten Coast, the local radio and stage theatrical troupe, The Panhandle Players, are planning a Christmas Eve broadcast to bring a bit of joy to the community they serve.

The award winning story of screen and radio, The Miracle on 34th Street, has finally made it from the stage, film screen and radio stations of New York City to our corner of the world. Join our local actors and stage crew members as they leave their homes, shops and oyster boats to bring the story of Kris Kringle live to WPHP Radio in Apalachicola. Join us in the radio station auditorium for this evening of stage magic. While Maureen O’Hara, Edmund Gwynn and Natalie Wood can’t be here, you will be enthralled by your friends and neighbors performing on our radio station stage this new story addressing the age-old question, “Is Santa Claus real?”.

If you haven’t seen the movie let me provide a brief synopsis. Delores Walker works for Macy’s Department Store on 34th Street in New York City. In the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade she has to hire a replacement Santa Claus at the last minute and the man she hires is Santa Claus – or is he? Delores is a practical, no-nonsense woman who doesn’t believe in fairy tales and she is raising her young daughter, Susan, to live in a factual, no-nonsense world. The rest of the story will teach Delores, Susan and all of you that the magic of Christmas is to be believed and embraced because the miracles of the season are real.

Plan to join the Panhandle Players in the WPHP Radio Station at the Chapman Auditorium this holiday season and make Christmas, 1950 a celebration to remember!
